Last Thursday, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana has discountinued their 17 year old lower priced line D&G. The line made their last apperance in Milan Fashion Week showing their last D&G Spring/Summer collection. It was not a surprise of the closing of D&G since it was rumored since March that both Dominico and Stefano have been toying of the idea for the past few years.
“Without taking the style into consideration, ever since the early days, we were always looking at the Chanel Maison as an example, one with one single brand,” said Domenico.
“We think that in order to work well, to be in the market for a long time, and to leave something after us, there must be only one brand and not two,” said Gabbana.
D&G was not a struggling line, there were times when D&G would out proform the higher priced line Dolce and Gabbana in some key Asian markets. But this not really the end of D&G it is just going to be infuse in to Dolce & Gabbana. As Dominico told Womens Word Daily:
“We are very happy, this is not a closure, it’s an opening of new opportunities for us, simply with one brand. We are independent, it’s our own company and we have nobody to report to. We may have made mistakes in the past, but we feel this is the way to go.”
